Year 9 Geography Project: Visual Pollution

Sha Tin Analysis

Picture
Through interviewing the people in Wo Che Estate in Sha Tin, the result shows that Sha Tin is the fourth most severe visually polluted district. The visual problem in Sha Tin is average, not as severe as Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and Fo Tan but the problem is more severe than districts like Kowloon Tong and Tai Wai. Wo Che Estate is a residential area and the paint on the walls are not peeled off because maintenance is probably frequent and the age of the buildings are not as old. However, the outlook of the estate building was not modern and the buildings were facing the old industrial area in Fo Tan. During the field trip, we even saw tenants hanging their blankets, underwear and clothes outside the windows of their flats, which is not particularly aesthetically pleasing for pedestrians. There is a small park right outside the building but some of the recreational facilities in the park are old. Paint was peeling off from the colorful chairs and some other facilities in the park. Although visual pollution is a bit of a problem in Sha Tin, from our observation, we can see that there are still a few positive aspects about visual pollution in that area such as the fact that the residential buildings are surrounded by trees and plants, which make it look much nicer.
