Year 9 Geography Project: Visual Pollution

Fo Tan Analysis

Picture
We interviewed some tenants in Sui Wo Court and pedestrians on Wo Lin Huang Road in Fo Tan. From the data we have gathered, Fo Tan is rated as the district that has the second most severe problem of visual pollution (same average rate as Tsim Sha Tsui). The results are expected, as are the causes of the issue because as we suspected, the visual pollution is due to the age and the land use of the district proving two of our hypotheses. It also disproves one of our hypotheses as the population is low in this district. Sui Wo Court was built in 1980 and the industrial district is very old too therefore, the buildings are old. There is an obvious correlation between the amount of visual pollution and the age of the district. Paint is often peeling off the walls and graffiti is drawn along the alleys. The land use also contributes to the amount of visual pollution, many industrial buildings are located in Fo Tan which we suspect is one of the causes because most industrial buildings do not have frequent maintenance and do not look very aesthetically pleasing due to the decaying walls and exterior.
